Temporary Face-up #1
This is Elliott's current temporary face-up-- as mentioned before, it is SHINY. But it's just temporary and will get wiped in one or two weeks. For now, I'm too tired to do another face-up. (This is my second face-up.)

I like the lower lashes on his right eye. Also, a little bit of fur fiber was on his cheek and I didn't see. Sorry sorry. :( These were quick snapshots.

His eyebrows are not purple. That was a lighting problem.

Known problems: one eyebrow is darker than the other because there are more lashes there; shiny due to the coating. And of course... I still need to practice a lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot more. But I think I did pretty good for a second face-up. :o (Only one person has seen Elliott's first face-up. Yech.)

I was actually afraid that they would make his face look unbalanced, but they came out fine. 8D! Thank you. ♥

Oh poor baby! Now he looks even more like he needs a hug. Even with the shiny, that's a pretty good face up :) What did you use for the eyebrows?
Chien[info]pikakao on February 28th, 2007 01:46 am (UTC)
Hugs for Elliott. XD At least he doesn't look like he's going to attack you for hugging him. I used acrylic paint for his eyebrows and very lightly put a little pastel on them. As a note... because our sealer is really shiny, it has almost no tooth. Its texture is like that of a plastic playpen toy for toddlers-- water-resistant and slippery. The paint kept beading up and could be easily wiped off. D,:
Annie[info]resin_wonders on February 28th, 2007 04:58 am (UTC)
Oh, beading, that's so annoying. That happened to me when I tried Tamiya paint. Turns out it likes plastic - not resin.
Chien[info]pikakao on February 28th, 2007 06:26 am (UTC)
WHY SO PICKY. Darn paint-- just... paint!
Annie[info]resin_wonders on February 28th, 2007 06:30 am (UTC)
LOL exactly XD

The first time was a huuuuge train wreck. Second time, we got better supplies and it was a lot easier. :3 And yes! Moles!

Aww, he looks really cute, not too bad of a faceup job. You might using chalk pastel to make a base for the eyebrows, drawing out the shape for them with a paintbrush or q-tip then use a sharpened eraser to make out the shape. then use the colored pencil to fill in the "hairs". I tried that method last time I gave Bri a faceup and it makes them look rather nice.
Chien[info]pikakao on February 28th, 2007 01:32 am (UTC)
Bri is an SD. I have to do smaller lines on Elliott's face than Bri, and so colored pencil reeeally doesn't work that well. I already tried that. :( If it was that easy, I would be much happier. I was literally painting with one hair on the paintbrush to make lines thin enough to even compare to his old face-up. And I did use chalk pastel as a base for the eyebrows, but I wanted the face-up to be really light and airy so it's not obvious. His eyes are shaded too.
arei_n_doll[info]arei_n_doll on February 28th, 2007 02:50 am (UTC)
Wot size is he. I thought he was MSD..If he tiny then I understand...tiny are hard to faceup.
Chien[info]pikakao on February 28th, 2007 03:46 am (UTC)
He is an MSD, hence my dire need of really, really thin lines because I like to take close-ups. Another reason why I can't use sharpened pencils is that we're using really cheap, shiny seal since this is all temporary, so it's VERY weak and VERY shiny. There's almost no tooth to it. The pencil not only glides across the surface, it also scrapes off the coating. So to get lines, I have to push a little, but when I push a litle... well, there goes the coating.
arei_n_doll[info]arei_n_doll on February 28th, 2007 04:41 am (UTC)
Ouch, yeh. Well maybe you can still give the chalk pastel method a try but use the paint brush over it instead. But would probably be best to wait after you have a good sealant. Cos I doubt the chalk pastel would stick to well to the shiny stuff you have now.
Chien[info]pikakao on February 28th, 2007 04:54 am (UTC)
Yeah... Thank you for the tips, though! When we get better sealant (aka when we feel that we're good enough to merit better sealnt) I'll definitely try using more chalk pastel. For now, I have to keep chalk pastel on the downlow because the only way I can get it on him is to kind of... mush it against the coating very violently yet gently. Which creates streaks easier. XD; ::sob!:: But thank you, once again!

Aaw, he's so sweet and innocint looking, like a little boy! No more attitude, but total puppy dog eyes!

Elliott's my sister's character, and he's supposed to be nice and not mean. So this is good! XD

a loaded God complex: glomp[info]cupiecake on February 28th, 2007 02:23 am (UTC)
have you tried maybe using a toothpick for the fine lines?

I feel like he needs more blushing on his cheeks and more shade in the eyelid.

But he looks so much more innocent and awwww woobie than before!

(PS CHERRY IS ON HIS WAY I AM FULL OF SQUEE)
Chien[info]pikakao on February 28th, 2007 03:52 am (UTC)
The coating we're using is very cheap and shiny (I should probably broadcast this everywhere since people are giving me suggestions that don't really work on something with so little tooth or just can't stand such pressure). My fingernails can go through the three coats with just one medium-powered swipe of the thumb... so using something pointed, like a toothpick, sounds like a very dangerous idea. XD; And... and the lines are actually pretty fine, but I had to keep building and building and building to get them to even show up since paint just beads up on the shiny, smooth surface.

I feel like I need to put a coin next to his face and take pictures to prove how thin the eyelashes are. D,: Elliott's head is smaller than the image on the monitor, guys. And I don't know how to paint... like. At all. In art class, I just kind of whipped the brush around and was like "I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO BLEND SOMEONE TEACH ME. ::sob!::"

And honestly, the blushing and shading is darker IRL. In the pictures, they look lighter. I would take more photos if it wasn't for the shiny, which REFLECTS all my cool lights that I use to take pictures with. XD; So you wouldn't be able to see him very well. And he would look weird. These pictures make Elliott look like he has white skin, when he is in fact darker and pinker than that. D,:

(And hurray~ So far I've only seen two Cherry boys!)
a loaded God complex[info]cupiecake on February 28th, 2007 05:43 am (UTC)
The shine makes his face look dewy!

also that's terrifying, that you can't put any pressure on it. i would be like OMG I'M TTLY GOING TO KILL IT AHHHH.
Chien[info]pikakao on February 28th, 2007 05:53 am (UTC)
He also has gloss on his lips and eyes, and it shows up a little in the pictures since it's shinier than his face.

Yeah, but if you get GOOD, 'SPENSIVE SEALANT... you'll be fine. We just thought that it's not worth buying unless we're good, because we might end up wasting it.
